2 month update!

Well, miss pixie had her 2 month check on Thursday, and she's not such a pixie anymore. She's 8 lbs 15 oz (probably hit the full 9 pounds after she ate a bit later ;P) 21 1/4 in long, & her head is 37 3/4 cm. 3 month clothes fit her everywhere except her little skinny butt. Too bad they don't make belts for babies! She's close to sleeping through the night-only waking once, around 4 am, to eat. There is a few hours of colic each night before we do finally get to sleep, however :( (other than that, she is a complete sweetheart!)

Since she got her 2 month round of shots at the check up Daddy had something that we just *had* to do. Little miss went straight to the mall to get her ears pierced! She got some shiny 14k white gold studs, and they barely seemed to bother her.

My final birth story

This is my birth story, as written the day after she was born:

Yesterday, I had an appointment with a midwife. I was dilated to 3 cm, and 70% effaced (the week before, I was 2 cm and 50%). Since I was still having a watery discharge, she checked me for fluid again, and it came up positive. I have a history of dilating and delivering very fast, so she had me go to the hospital for evaluation, and possible induction.

I got to the hospital around 1:30, and they decide to admit me and start pitocin, since I had dilated a tad further already (about a 3 1/2). Pit got started around 3/4 pm, and my contractions quickly moved to being 4 minutes apart. At 8pm, I decided to have my IV pain medication started (at this point, I'm up to 4cm), and it was great...for a whole 30 minutes. It was supposed to last 2 hours :( I have already pushed out 2 kiddos without pain relief, so I opted for the epidural-they started putting it in around 9. The sensation of the epidural being done was not my favorite part, but soon after they were done, I was feeling better, so I didn't care, lol!

through all of this, I was in a pretty good mood, the midwives were great, and the nurses were awesome as well. We all kept joking about how she needed to be here before midnight, since our other 2 were born on even numbered days, and laughing about how fast my boys were born.

At this point, my contractions are 2 minutes apart, and the midwife on call went to go get what she needed for my catheter. Around 9:30 I start having stronger contractions, but I wasn't completely numb yet. Still better than with my previous 2, but painful anyway. 9:40, I have a very strong contraction, and as soon as it stopped, I felt something bulge, then burst, and fluid was gushing out! (this was at 9:40 on the dot). Mark poked his head out to tell the nurse, and just as she got in the room, I had a contraction. I was feeling her head already!! She laughed (we had been joking around the whole time), calmly poked her head out to call for the midwife, and joked about how I really do go fast. The midwife went to check me, looked, and said "Woah! That would be a head!" and laughed. At that point, she told me to push whenever I felt like it. I started having a bit of pain, and she calmly talked to me through the whole thing. I think I may have pushed 5 times before she was out, and she immediately started squirming and kicking!

As soon as Layla was born (9:49pm), she got laid on my chest, and I got to hold her and nurse her for a full 30 minutes before she went to the nursery for her bath and testing. She was born with a strong body, a very strong cry, and a strong suck/latch. For a little 5 pound 13.5 ounce girl, she is such a fighter-her brothers need to watch out!

This was 100% a perfect labor for me. I could never have dreamed it would have gone so well!! I didn't tear, and I haven't had near as much bleeding as I did with either of the boys. Recovery has been great so far as well, except the cramping while bf'ing (that sucks no matter what, lol)

The next day:

Oh me, oh my!

One heck of a catch-up post...I started having bad pre-term contractions, and ended up with a stay in the hospital (I got to come home on Christmas Eve). I was on strict bedrest after that. In January, still contracting, I started leaking fluid, and was placed on antibiotics. The next week, I was 3 cm and still leaking, so I was sent to the hospital for emergency induction. Labor was the closest thing to perfect I could possibly describe (birth story to follow in a separate post). After almost 3 full months of contractions, I had my little girl on January 26, just 2 days before my moms birthday. 5 pounds 13 oz, 19 1/4 inches long. 2 days after leaving the hospital, and she was already 6 1/2 pounds! Our boys have adapted to our Little Miss so perfectly-I couldn't ask for more!! I've been a horrible blogger, I know, but between bed rest, close calls and scares, finally having her, and moving right after, things have been very hectic for us.
